RON RIPPEY'S MONMOUTH PICKS FOR SUNDAY, AUG. 10
AT MONMOUTH
Post Time: 12:50
1 - KUTSCHMAN has pedigree to make first start going long for hot jockey/trainer combo of Paco Lopez/Edward Plesa. WARRIOR'S INSTINCT has perfectly spaced workouts all at Monmouth for debut. WILD ZAMBEZI acted up at gate in first start; risky as the morning line favorite.
2 - BABY GRACIE takes big drop price-wise after romping at 6-5, but doesn't face restricted claimers here. ALAMANDA DRIVE plunges below price of claim by Navarro, who wins 41% of the time going turf-to-dirt. CROSS MOUNTAIN drops for second start after being reclaimed by McMahon.
3 - MOONLIGHT BLAZE plunges into claimer. SONOFACHUB has breeding to be quick. JR.'S CHILI PEPPER faltered on lead after going too quick too soon.
4 - LOGAN STREET is back at level where he was a winner. BOY OF SUMMER needed last; has some back class. DR. GOLDFARB likes the Shore.
5 - GOODTIMEHADBYALL won last time not in a stakes race. Often-favored M J PLUS went wide at Saratoga. INDIAN JONES has been facing better.
6 - DISCREET DUKE went wide after beating same sort in prior race. MILLENNIUM LAKES sinks to right price. HITEC DAVE was over head in latest jaunt.
7 - STREET BRAWL makes third start after long layoff with new blinkers. PRO GOLD drops for second start after claim. HOW DO I WIN sure needed last following two-year layoff.
8 - PERPETUAL NOVENA (BEST BET) should like a little more ground and retains Paco. SKIRT STRIKE has to be caught; loses Paco to top pick. HARLAN'S HONOR drops from stakes.
9 - STIFFED storms off pace duel provided by CHUBBIANNA and MORE THAN A PARTY in an upset.
10 - HANDOVERTHECAT converts speed on Polytrack to lawn. JU JU EYEBALLS is one to beat after winning in first outing since Oct. and sporting 4-for-4 record on lawn. Gets hammered on toteboard. ALLABOUT CAROLINE steps up seeking third in a row in turf sprint.
11 - Longshot TWO BLUE plunges into bottom-level maiden race and sheds blinkers. SAFARI SAMBA must avoid speed duel, but is one to beat. MAYBE MY WAY takes serious drop.

- RON RIPPEY'S SARATOGA PICKS FOR SUNDAY, AUG. 10AT SARATOGAPost Time: 1:00
- 1 - TIZ TIME TO SHINE has nicely spaced drills for debut for hot Castellano/Chad Brown combo. BELLAMY WAY may be coming on late. MARKET CONDUCT, also trained by Chad Brown, if offspring of hot sire Super Saver.2 - JOHN BAILEY sheds blinkers, shortens up, holds on. TIGER D. rolls late if LITTLE T. LOUIE pressures top selection.3 - WENT THE DAY WELL needed last; has tons of back class. PINBALL , who won five in a row from Jan. 2013 to March 2014 takes huge tumble in class. GOODTOLOOK sets the pace.4 - MISS ALWAYS READY is on edge to break maiden for Velazquez/Pletcher. LADY OF VICTORY has to be run down. DANCE WITH RON's workouts don't inspire, but there is no one hotter than trainer Graham Motion right now.5 - BINGO KITTEN went wide. One to beat for Ramsey/Maker connection with Castellano up. DUKE OF PERTH broke poorly in U.S. debut. Gets Lasix and blinkers. MASERATI flopped in mud.
- 6 - WITH EXULTATION (BEST BET) just missed in trip like this. Post may hurt ASSET INFLATION. VISIONANDAPRAYER will be winging a long way on top.7 - BLAME DIXIE is another Pletcher 2-year-old prepped to make debut a winner. CORAL BEACH, also trained by Pletcher, hasn't been working as quickly as top pick. I'LL SHOW ME makes debut for Motion.8 - ALL CASH became a winner upon arrival at Saratoga. Value play with 12-1 morning line. KILLER CROSSOVER might be better back on dirt. STABLEFORD dips into claimer for the first time.9 - Unbeaten VIVIAN DA BLING would not be shipped by Calhoun to the Spa if not ready to win. EMPRESSIVE HUMOR stalks first pick. ANGELA RENEE will get strong support, but can Pletcher win all the 2-year-old races?10 - CINCO CHARLIE holds on this time. W V JETSETTER needs torrid speed duel. Picks up Rosario. I SPENT IT must clear Post 1.11 - KATHY'S KITTEN only takes slight jump in price after victory with superior turf credentials. DOC ALMON sets the pace. HYMAN ROTH needs to regain last year's form.

Saratoga - 8/10/2014
Race 1-1st #6 TIZ TIME TO SHINE2ND #7 BELLAMY WAY3RD #3 MARKET CONDUCT#6 TIZ TIME TO SHINE is by two-time Breeders’ Cup Classic winner Tiznow, whose progeny win on debut at a 7% clip. This colt is the first foal to race out of a dam who won her debut and scored five times in a 10-race career. Two of those victories came in stakes, and she is kin to a debut winner, Keep the Peace, who wound up Grade I placed in a career where she earned 325k. This colt is working well and hails from a barn that is 35% with 2YO firsters in NY bred races ($3.20 ROI). #7 BELLAMY WAY is by 11% debut sire Bellamy Road and is out of a dam who won three times. She has dropped numerous winners, including 444k earner Itsagoodtendollars. This barn has done well with firsters in the last couple of years and this colt has drawn an ideal outside post. #3 MARKET CONDUCT is by freshman sire Super Saver, who has three debut winners in his first crop. This colt is kin to 147k earner Cooper River and his dam was a stakes-placed in her 15 race career. The workouts here are solid and he’ll be a longer price at the windows than his stablemate.Race 2-1st #5 TIGER D2ND #4 SLEW’S BREW3RD #7 JOHN BAILEY#5 TIGER D ran a tremendous race on debut at Churchill Downs against open MSW company. He was squeezed back in the opening furlongs of that event and was steadied along the rail. In the final three furlongs, he made a wide move to reach contention and wound up coming up a head short at 16-1. Trainer Jimmy Baker now has him facing NY breds, which constitutes a massive class drop and a repeat of his debut would win this thing handily. #4 SLEW’S BREW has run two solid races in as many tries on turf, as he closed well to snag the placed dough in his most recent start over this oval. He was given a very heady ride by Dylan Davis in that event and showed that he can come from off the pace. If the top pick falters, he’s a definite win candidate. #7 JOHN BAILEY returns from a lengthy layoff for high percentage trainer Michael Dilger. This barn has struggled at this stand, but this son of Cosmonaut showed signs of life last year as a juvenile. He has a good deal of speed and figures to be involved from the outset.Race 3-1st #1 SIR LESLIE2ND #5 PINBALL3RD #6 SATURDAY APPEAL#1 SIR LESLIE is a late runner who hails from a barn that is on a roll at this current meet. Trainer Phil Serpe has two wins this week and a strong second place finish with Steve on Friday afternoon. This son of Stonesider will get a strong pace to run at today under Abel Lezcano and hardly embarrassed himself last time out when 4th going this trip. The pace in that event was strong, and it will be again today. That will help this gelding. #5 PINBALL is looking for a rebound as he gets some class relief for trainer Bill Mott. He showed nothing in two starts downstate, which makes you wonder about whether he just hated the sandy Belmont oval. His speed is a weapon, but he is also capable of sitting just off of it early and that makes this 5x winner the one to beat. #6 SATURDAY APPEAL was a game 2nd last time out with a perfect trip under Junior Alvarado. He reached the front in mid-stretch before getting collared late and proved that afternoon that he can be effective without the early lead. His last two races have been vastly improved and he’ll still be a fair price in this event.Race 4-1st #8 THEBEATOFTHESTREET2ND #9 TRENSITA3RD #7 MISS ALWAYS READY#8 THEBEATOFTHESTREET is by Artie Schiller, a 7% debut sire whose progeny win on turf at a 12% clip. There’s a bit of turf pedigree on the damside, including stakes winner Johnny Dollar. However, it was the quick :10 and 1/5 workout this filly posted at the OBS April sale that is encouraging. Working without blinkers and under a rider who put her to minimal pressure, she powered through that furlong with a lovely stride. If she runs to that workout, she’ll have a major say in the outcome here. #9 TRENSITA is by Curlin, a 17% turf sire and is kin to grass winner Gold Medal Dancer. Her dam was a 2x turf winner and is kin to Batique, a turf winner who produced grass winners Miss Lamour and Tejida, both of whom raced for Michael Matz. This barn is quietly having a strong meet and this filly just may get lost in the wagering. #7 MISS ALWAYS READY is a full sister of 2010 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf winner More Than Real. That filly broke her maiden here at Saratoga on debut going long on the turf, so there’s reason to believe this gal will be ready to roll today. She is training forwardly for the meet’s top barn, which hit with a 2YO firster going long on the weeds here on Saturday.Race 5-1st #5 DUKE OR PERTH2ND #8 ALAKAZAN ALAKAZAN3RD #7 PAPY#5 DUKE OF PERTH goes 2nd off a layoff for Todd Wyatt after making his first stateside start on opening day of this meet. He gets Lasix and blinkers today for his 2nd outing in this country and he should be a tad closer in the early stages with the shades added. The field he faced last time out was tougher than what he’ll meet today and that adds to his appeal in a competitive race. #8 ALAKAZAN ALAKAZAN goes 3rd off a brief break and has run a pair of improved races for new trainer Graham Motion. He was badly pace compromised in his last and still finished well to round out the superfecta, and the added ground today should not pose a major issue. If jockey John Velazquez can get him over to save a little ground early, his chances will improve a great deal. #7 PAPY is at his best at these longer distances and did finish well in his last start despite receiving no pace help. There are a few more potential pace players in this field and that should ensure a better setup for late runners. The fact that this son of Dynaformer is a winner at the 12 furlong distance is also noteworthy.Race 6-1ST #6 WITH EXULTATION2ND #1 MR MASTERPIECE3RD #10 ASSET INFLATION#6 WITH EXULTATION was a game 2nd last time out for trainer Michael Trombetta. The winner of that race Sandy’z Slew, is a proven NY bred turf sprinter and this gelding ran very well despite covering the widest trip of all participants in that heat. He made a splash last year as a router, but has improved on the cutback of late for Trombetta and should be in line to capitalize on the projected solid pace. #1 MR MASTERPIECE was a lackluster 2nd last time out given the circumstances in that event. The pace was fast and he made a clear bid from last while completely avoiding trouble. The rail draw is no bargain and this group is tougher, but grass sprints are his game and he should be a square price in this spot. #10 ASSET INFLATION was a handy winner in his first start off a claim by Mike Maker. This barn is 39% with horses going 2nd off of claims and exiting victories, good for a solid $2.70 ROI. The outside post will be perfect for him and he figures to offer value at the windows given the class jump.Race 7-1st #10 TREASURE2ND #2 BLAME DIXIE3RD #3 SOPHRONIA#10 TREASURE is drawn perfectly outside for a barn that has hit with two first time starters just this week. This filly is by 11% debut sire Medaglia d’Oro and has five siblings who are winners. Among them are fleet-footed sprinters Elope and Silver City, the former of whom won here at Saratoga. If this filly takes a little bit of money early, she should be considered a prime win candidate. #2 BLAME DIXIE is by freshman sire Blame, who has one juvenile debut winner this year. This filly has reportedly been training very well according to the workout observers at the Spa, and this barn is having a typically strong meet with its 2YO debuters. #3 SOPHRONIA hails from a barn that scored here with a firster a week ago. This filly is by 10% debut sire Street Sense and is kin to impressive debut winner Wine Police, who scored at first asking here in 2010. The workouts here are strong and this barn is certainly capable of having a juvenile ready on debut.Race 8-1st #12 PART2ND #7 STABLEFORD3RD #11 KILLER CROSSOVER#12 PART did not have the cleanest of trips when 6th last time out against much tougher competition. He now goes 3rd off a layoff and will race for a tag for the first time for trainer Barclay Tagg. He is drawn poorly on the outside, but faces drastically weaker competition here than he did in his last start. If a cleaner trip can be worked out by jockey Joe Rocco, Jr., this gelding will be dangerous in the final furlong. #7 STABLEFORD is in for a tag for the first time this afternoon. He has not factored into the decision in either of his last two outings, but will benefit from the class relief he gets today. He’s also just a few months removed from a strong 2nd place finish behind Mr. Jenney. A race like that will win this thing for fun. #11 KILLER CROSSOVER was 5th, just in front of Part last time out going a mile and a sixteenth on the Widener turf. He had a cleaner trip than Part did that afternoon, but this colt proved he can handle turf and starts for a barn that is having a strong week.Race 9-1st #1 WONDER GAL2ND #3 ANGELA RENEE3RD #5 CAVORTING#1 WONDER GAL was an impressive debut winner for trainer Leah Gyarmati in a NY bred stake race downstate at Belmont. She lagged behind in the opening furlong of that affair, then exploded with a huge middle move to reach the front on the far turn. That ability to lay back and make one run is a major asset in a race that should be run at a frenetic early pace. She is a large bodied individual who will adore the added ground and will offer value due to the likely favoritism of#3 ANGELA RENEE. That daughter of Bernardini is a full sister of dual Grade I winner To Honor and Serve and was extremely professional on debut down at. She rated comfortably outside of her rivals and finished strongly late. That tactical speed is a major asset in a race that should have a strong early pace. Two of the fillies she defeated in that debut have since returned to win over this oval. #5 CAVORTING is another who looked flashy on debut down at Belmont as she handily dispatched a small field. She has a great deal of speed and should be involved from the outset under the hot-riding Irad Ortiz, Jr.Race 10-1st #1 I SPENT IT2ND #7 CINCO CHARLIE3RD #8 STANFORD#1 I SPENT IT won a strong MSW event at Belmont in early July. The runner-up from that race came back to perform well here at Saratoga, as did the third-place finisher in that affair. The rail draw is no bargain for this son of Super Saver, but he finished very strongly in his debut, with little to no urging late by Javier Castellano. He galloped out well ahead of the field that afternoon and should have no problem with the additional ground he’ll cover in here. It helps that over the last five years, trainer Tony Dutrow is 9-12 with 2YO second timers coming off of maiden wins in dirt sprints. #7 CINCO CHARLIE battled from the outset in the Sanford on opening weekend and was collared late as the 2-1 second choice. The additional ground here could prove problematic, but at least he is drawn outside of the other pace players. You’ll get a better price on him today and it’s clear he has a great deal of talent. #8 STANFORD overcame trouble to break his maiden on debut at Monmouth for trainer Todd Pletcher. He finished powerfully after reaching the front in upper stretch that afternoon and should have no issue with added ground in here. He’ll certainly be the less fancied of the Pletcher pair in this field.Race 11-1st #2 TAPITDAR2ND #1 DAYS RIDE3RD #4 HYMAN ROTH#2 TAPITDAR raced in close attendance of a hot pace in his most recent start and reached the front briefly in mid-stretch. He wound up a game 2nd to off the pace winner Dreaming of Danny, who lagged behind and benefited from the huge setup. This son of Tapit now goes 2nd off a long layoff and will once again get a strong tempo to run at in the waning stages under Luis Saez. #1 DAYS RIDE was taken out of his game in his most recent start, as he wound up racing close to a very soft pace. That took its toll late when the pace players quickened, as he tired to finish 8th in a field of nine. That was a much tougher field than he meets today and he’ll be in line to benefit from the race flow in this affair. #4 HYMAN ROTH goes first off a claim by the high percentage Lisa Lewis barn. He has shown a great deal of speed throughout his career, but has also been effective rating just off the pace, which is the trip he’s most likely to fall into this afternoon.SARATOGA 2014 STATS: 201-46-37-28 $326.70- --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
