MARK THE MAGICIAN RACE OF THE DAY

Race 7 # 5 DELTA FLOWER , at 5/2 on the Morning Line, broke her maiden at Oaklawn Park on March 8th by 3 lengths in a 12 horse field and returned on March 29th in the $75K Rainbow Miss to Destroy that field! DELTA FLOWER joined the Jerry Hollendorfer stable for her 4th start and won the $75K Angel Flight at Santa Anita on May 17th with Nakatani aboard.  She then finished 4th to JOJO WARRIOR in the Grade 2 Summertime Oaks on June 21st. She is well rested and has three works over the Del Mar surface!! Bejarano takes the call and as I mentioned yesterday ( with WILDLING ) he is 75% in the $$ Money $$ when riding for Hollendorfer at the current Del Mar meet!  # 3 TRIBAL SPY is also well rested and also has three Strong works and a Win in her only start here at Del Mar last year going 6 furlongs. # 1 MASTER THE BLUES gets Top jockey Kent Desormeaux back after finishing 4th here at Del Mar on July 25th. MASTER THE BLUES won three straight races before her 4th place finish and Desormeaux did lose his whip in that 4th place finish here on July 25th. A race Loaded with $$ Value!!

JIMMY Q'S DEL MAR SELECTIONS

RACE 1
6 Furlongs
State bred Md 50,000

#7 Player's Charm (5-2)
Has been long odds in first 3 starts and ran well in all 3.  With the drop today the pressure is on to win when expected.  Looks tough

#3 Better Luck (3-1)
Can't ignore any firster out of the Peter Miller barn.  Only paid $13,000 for the horse so certainly this horse must be working well in the AM

#2 Stormin Wild (9-2)
Showed speed going 5F and today they add blinkers so is it possible to show more speed?  If he clears the field could be tough to catch

RACE 2
6 Furlongs
Filly Md 62,500

#8 Suite One (7-2)
Broke from the rail first time when running an impressive second.  Trainer steps up in class which is always a confident sign at Del Mar

#3 Nicole Michelle (3-1)
2 starts and 2 decent efforts.  With a slight move forward today could find herself in the winners circle

#7 Birthday Song (15-1)
A nice string of 3f drills may mean this one is ready to show early speed in a race that might be looking for a pace setter.  Upset possiblity

RACE 3
6 Furlongs
Filly Clm 40,000

#8 Tough Business (7-2)
Improving filly and could have her choice of trips after drawing the outside post

#2 Natalie Paige (4-1)
First time synthetic and should like stretching back out.  Should be part of the early pace

#7 Gracie Ragazza (5-1)
If things fall apart up front this could be the one rolling late

RACE 4
One Mile and Sixteenth
Filly Clm 32,000

#3 Flashy Dame (5-1)
Looks very dangerous to me and this 5 year old mare appears to be in great form

#1 Silver Hustler (6-1)
Only second career synthetic start but a much softer spot for this effort so stands a serious chance

#9 Always a Chance (15-1)
Reclaim for the O'Neill barn 3 back so they like something for her at this level.  Tyler just missed with this one earlier in the meet at a double digit price

RACE 5
6.5 Furlongs
Filly MSW 75k

#9 Here's Bella (6-1)
Good debut effort over at Los Al and seems to be working forward for start #2.  Only ? is that Talamo was to jump on the 1 but that horse is now a scratch

#4 Keezheekoni (15-1)
Should benefit from the freshening and ran well fresh in her debut.  A return to that form and is right there in the thick of things

#2 Fashioned Lady (7-2)
Proctor/Drayden Van Dyke combo did a lot of damage at the Santa Anita meet and this one could get them rolling at Del Mar

RACE 6
6 Furlongs
State bred Filly 20k/N1X

#6 Only Josie Knows (9-2)
Canani trained filly looks ready to fire a big effort

#9 Midnight Lady (7-2)
has ran well over the Del Mar synthetic in the past and is training well leading up to the race

#1 Halo La (6-1)
A little cheap for the condition but holds some dangerous early speed. Will need to get loose to steal this one

RACE 7
5 Furlongs
Filly- Stakes "The Daisycutter Handicap"

#1 Master the Blues (4-1)
Super sharp mare who cuts back to sprinting.  Hess/Desormeaux combo has been lethal

#3 Tribal Spy (3-1)
Layed off since May but can't ignore a Tribal Rule sired horse on the synthetic

#4 Our Pure Creation (6-1)
Another layoff horse but does possess one synthetic effort that was a win at BHP by open lengths

RACE 8
One Mile and Sixteenth
Md 20,000

#7 No Dishonor (9-2)
Blinkers stay on and serious drop in class to try and win today.  Talamo stays aboard

#2 Super Reagan (5-2)
Ran too good to lose to stable mate on opening day.  Could be his day

#4 Stolen Property (6-1)
Surface switch and a drop in class for this gelding they only paid $6,000 for.  Saw something promising to keep him at a higher level up to today

-Nice little streak we're on continued at Del Mar yesterday, as we hit with two, including a 12-1 shot. ( I do NOT find it coincidental that a semblance of normalcy returned once racing was taken off the turf, and obviously more attention has been paid to the poly, as well, with no reported fatalities. )
-Team Coxy fared well at the Saratoga Handicapping challenge as well, where the missus closed strongly to move up from 31st to 18th, and cash out a decent check.
-We remained on target with our steeplechase selections, as we bagged an $89 triple box in the opener. ( Boy, we sure do have our oars in a lot of waters, don't we ? Contests, jumpers, Del Mar. What's next...harness ? Oh yeah, went there last night as well ! )
Like Mr. Ritz said to Mrs. Ritz...let's get crackin'.
SARATOGA
RACE 2: If there were ever a type of race where it would be more plausible to
run "gals" against "guys", it would be in a 2YO turf race. That is precisely what
Wesley Ward does here today with a duet of fillies. Johnny V.  named on both
however, means only one can go. We're jammin' on ( just ) the #1 HOOLIGAN. This
grey filly had to be cajoled into the gate in debut, but once away, ended up w/ an
adjusted Beyer of 60.2 ( a figure that beats these, I  believe ). Breeding says an
improvement is forthcoming. #9 DELTA OUTLAW was purchased for 5 1/2 times
the breeding price, and Weaver/Rosario double their rate when shaking hands in
the paddock. #5 POTTHAST has been working lights out. Off Turf : 8-9-4-3-2

Del Mar - 8/8 - 7:00 P.M. First Post

Race 11.Momma Tried2.Gottalovethosecats3.Better Luck
Well, the crazy cajun', Eric Guillot, proved to be not so crazy after all, after taking down the Jim Dandy Stakes @ Saratoga last week. His firster in todays' opener, #6 MOMMA TRIED doesn't have a poly rating in the sire book, but his turf number is pretty high, and you know how I feel about turf form translating to the poly ( See $29 winner Wednesday. ) Tomlinson @ the dx. is nice as well, and we're willing to take a bit of a flyer with the longest shot in the field. #4GOTTALOVETHOSECATS fired off a nice work 4 days ago ( 2nd of 21 ), and is adequately bred to handle this trip. #3 BETTER LUCK debuts for the Peter Miller barn, and his win rate zips up from 17% to 28% with debuting maiden claimers.
Race 21. Nicole Michelle2.Birthday Song3.Beach Premier
Although my wife might dig the first half of this name, she ain't paricularly fond of the latter ( "Saucer of milk---table 2 !" ) Regardless, we happen to LOVE all that this filly, #3 NICOLE MICHELLE, represents. She stepped up her game when switched over to the poly, drops a bit here, and breeding indicates will only keep improving on the synthetic. Hers to lose. #7 BIRTHDAY SONG tipped her her hand with a bullet work 3 weeks back and being a descendant of Arch, should handle this trip. #4 BEACH PREMIER doesn't show me anything spectacular, but you're getting top flight connections at a nicey nice pricey price.
Race 31.Underhill Drive2.Lotta Attitude3.Natalie Paige
#6 UNDERHILL DRIVE was boogeying down the hill when drifting out at the top of the lane before tailing to last. Was lights out when winning your run of the mill turf sprint @ Arlington Park in debut, and may revert to that form in first over the poly. Drops today. #4 LOTTA ATTITUDE took a brief respite after running an even 4th in a 50K stakes in Washington state. Was victorious in 2 straight prior to that, and cut her teeth nicely on the synthetic @ G.G. this winter. Lightning quick local move 10 days ago makes this one live. #2 NATALIE PAIGE didn't find first foray into open company to her satisfaction, after posting big numbers vs. Cal breds, but don't judge too harshly, as sometimes it can take a couple of starts to become acclimated to a new condition. In for tag for first time as well.  NOTE : AS OF 3:58 P.M., DUE TO A LATE SCRATCH, THE #8 WILL BE OUR 3RD SELECTION.
Race 41.Flashy Dame2.Handfull3.Silver Hustler
Tightest race of the day. #3 FLASHY DAME is a consistent one, having hit the board in 6 straight, but that doesn't necessarily win races. Both of this one's wins however, have come on the poly and at the distance, so we'll give a mild nod to her today. #4 HANDFULL is the speed of the speed, and is capable of winning on any surface at any time. Hollendorfer thinks enough of this gal to ship her south, and truth be told, if able to clear the #2 early, may be long gone. #1SILVER HUSTLER is as good a guess as any to round out the top 3.
Race 51.Keezheekoni2.Here's Bella 3.Bench Ruling
#7 KEEZHEEKONI is not quite the name you want to be typing @ 12:27 in the morning, but monikers aside, this one has a shot. Ran a smart debut during Thanksgiving week, then displayed some early zip versus a return winner in next, before eventually being eased. Been given some time to regroup off that one, and $180,000 purchase still not running for a tag. Hey, if the connections aren't giving up on her yet, neither are we---especially @ 15-1. #9 HERE'S BELLAshowed some early hoof in debut @ Los Al over a month ago, and has worked well since that effort. Has the benefit of an outside draw today, and Espinoza can see what's the dilly-o at the break before deciding what to do. #8 BENCH RULING is the sensible favorite after displaying a nice "Z" pattern when beginning her career in the Bay area. ( Lost 4 lengths from the 1/4 to the half, then gained 9 1/2 from that point to the finish.  ) Second and third place finishers from that day both came back winners, so this one is legit.
Race 61.Frisco Fog2.More Complexity3.Miss Loujean
#8 FRISCO FOG faces some speed competitors early on, but we feel this one has the benefit of better poly experience, and the outside draw to enable her to scoot away a bit heading into the turn. The gorilla in the room is whether or not she'll have enough left in the tank late. I don't know, ya know ?  #3 MORE COMPLEXITY scorched a bullet gate work last week, and while I know I'm buying a belt and suspenders in selecting another speed type, this one is quite gristled, having faced 3 return winners from last 4 outings. Keith Craigmyle is 30% with 2nd off the 45-180 L/O types, ( more than double his normal rate ), and that's enough reason for me to include the #2 MISS LOUJEAN in the top 3.
Race 71.Master The Blues2.Our Pure Creation3.Tribal Spy
#1 MASTER THE BLUES has gone from a low level Presque Isle/Tampa Bay runner in 2013, to that of a steady, 80's-ish poly performer. Hess charge may have needed the local debut when petering out in the lane, and can make amends today. Won only start from the rail. #4 OUR PURE CREATION took a 104 day break after flopping as the chalk when last seen in Arcadia, but prior to that was in darn good form, having been just a half shy of a 3 race win streak. Maldonado got the candy aboard this one once before. Factor. #3 TRIBAL SPY is classy and is 3 for 4 over the fake stuff, with one of those tallys coming right here a year back. BEATABLE FAVORITE : #5 DELTA FLOWER is by a sire ( A.P. Delta ) that has no recorded statistics w/poly performers, and if you were looking for the next possible barometer, the turf Tomlinson is real low, as well. Will be overbet because of the Grade 2 running line, and the powerhouse connections, but we're willing to take a stand against today.
Race 81.Super Reagan2.Cernobbio3.No Dishonor
Finale for todays' matinee' is a bottom level maiden claiming event, and always one to stay out of politics, we can't help but side with the #2 SUPER REAGAN. This 3YO Republ---errr...----gelding, ran a great 2nd at this trip 3 weeks ago, and was 5+ clear of the show horse in the process. He just has the look and feel of a horse coming into his own, and doesn't strike me as that "professional maiden" type. Diploma time. #6 CERNOBBIO drops to a lifetime low, and Pedroza takes over for the suspended Orozco. Could wake up with the surface switch. #7 NO DISHONOR has done squadeesh since being claimed for 50 big ones 3 back, but take note, however, that Autrey, a 15% conditioner on the norm, doubles that rate with maiden claimers.
